CORNWALL – Investigators from the Ontario Fire Marshal (OFM) will be on ground today (Friday) looking into the cause of last night’s massive blaze in the eastern section of Le Village.

A person has died and a second person has been injured after an apartment fire in Waterdown early Friday.

The Innisfil fire department has a new chief. Tom Raeburn was appointed by the town council on Wednesday night at a special meeting.

All across the northeastern region, there is a fire ban for most communities.  It has been 19 days since the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry implemented a burn ban all across the region.

A total of 23 firefighters from the Northwest Fire Centre were deployed to Ontario and Quebec last week to help with firefighting efforts in those provinces.

With significant rainfall in the Quinte region, local fire departments are starting to relax burn bans which have been in effect the last couple of weeks.

The temporary open-air burn ban that was issued for Haldimand County has been lifted. Fire Chief Jason Gallagher states that even with the recent rainfall, fire safety measures should still be followed when enjoying a recreational fire.
