The Township of North Dumfries is seeking applications for the position of a Fire Chief / Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC).

The Township of North Dumfries is situated in the southern part of Waterloo Region, straddling the Highway 401 corridor adjacent the Cities of Kitchener and Cambridge.  Due to our locational attributes, the Township of North Dumfries is poised for residential growth where development is already underway for the planned population of an additional 6,000 residents and over 2,300 new employment positions by 2031.

Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Fire Chief / CEMC will be responsible for the leadership and management of the Fire Services / Emergency Management Division.  The role and responsibilities of the Fire Chief / CEMC are outlined in a job description available on the Township’s website:  www.northdumfries.ca

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  1. University degree in Business Administration, Fire Administration, Public Administration or related field.
  2. Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the Fire Services, with a minimum of five (5) years in a leadership or supervisory position.  Representative experience in fire protection, rescue and emergency response services.
  3. Representative experience of working in a Volunteer (part-time) Fire Department environment.
  4. An extensive understanding of modern fire service principles and practices and an excellent working knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations.  Experience and familiarity of fire ground and emergency operations.
  5. Experience with emergency management planning, training and deployment of an Emergency Management Plan.
  6. Ability to provide strong leadership, demonstrates effective communication skills, sound judgement, excellent analytical and decision making skills.

The Township offers a competitive salary range of $107,325.40 to $134,152.20 [under review] on an annual basis for the Fire Chief / CEMC position.  Wages will be determined through the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.
