OFM Order to Close Template, English and French

February 5, 2020 – OFM Order to Close Template, English and French

An Order to Close may be issued by an inspector under the provisions of Subsection 21 (2) (a) of the FPPA. This order can only be issued with the approval of the Fire Marshal. Once approved, the Order to Close is issued to the owner or occupant of the premise. Upon receipt of the Order to Close, the owner is expected to comply by taking steps necessary to close the building or property. The Order to Close prescribes the corrective measures that must be complied with before the property can be reopened.

An Order to Close is not to be used in lieu of laying charges under the Provincial Offences Act for violations of the Fire Code.

Due to provincial government legislation, the OFM is not permitted to post customizable templates on their websites, so they have asked that the OAFC host the following template for your department to use.  A locked version of the template can be found on the OFM’s website.  The OAFC encourages all departments to use this template going forward when your inspectors are conducting inspections.
