Expression of Interest: Committee Member (Volunteer Firefighter)
MLITSD is currently accepting applications from volunteer firefighters interested in a position on the committee.
Since 1989, the Ontario Fire Service Health and Safety Advisory Committee has been a fine example of government, management and labour working in partnership with the common goal of protecting the occupational health and safety of fire services personnel in Ontario. The Ministry continues to rely on information and advice from this committee about matters arising under the Occupational Health and Safety Act to improve health and safety in Ontario’s fire services.
The activities of the committee include contributing to the development of Firefighter Guidance Notes and providing written recommendations to the Minister on health and safety issues.
Minimum qualifications for applicants:
- Currently in good standing in a volunteer firefighter position
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a firefighter
- Current or prior participation on a workplace Joint Health and Safety Committee or as a Health and Safety Representative (at any workplace)
Committee position description:
- Two (2) year term
- Unpaid, volunteer position
- Reimbursement will be made for travel expenses per the Ontario Public Service’s Travel, Meals and Hospitality Expenses Directive
- Meetings held quarterly, for 2 days at a time, in locations across the province
- Meeting attendance is in-person
- Members often collaborate by email between meetings to develop materials
