About the Role

The Township’s Fire & Emergency Services (OMFES) Department is currently seeking an experienced professional, with the knowledge, skills and abilities to fill the full-time role of Chief Fire Prevention Officer. Reporting to the Director, Fire and Emergency Services/Fire Chief, the Chief Fire Prevention Officer is responsible for administering the Corporation’s Fire Protection & Prevention initiatives along with enforcing the Municipal Bylaws, Provincial Acts and Codes through Fire Prevention. The individual will be responsible for the coordination and management of the Public Education program, along with acting as Assistant to the Fire Marshal as required.

What you Bring

The applicant must have a post-secondary education in Fire Prevention, Fire Cause and Determination or equivalent. The applicant must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a public sector fire prevention role with demonstrated leadership and teaching skills. Additionally, the successful candidate must have successfully completed the following qualifications:

  • NFPA 1031 – Level 1 – Fire Inspector
  • NFPA 1031 – Level 2 – Fire Inspector (preferred)
  • NFPA 1033 – Fire Investigator
  • NFPA 1035 – Level 2 – Public Educator
  • NFPA 1041 – Level 1 – Fire Instructor
  • NFPA 1021 – Level 1 – Fire Officer

The applicant must have experience in prosecuting Ontario Fire Code violations under the provisions of the Ontario Provincial Offences Act, note taking, interviewing witnesses, cautioning potential violators, serving summons, laying information, writing crown prosecution briefs and presenting evidence at trials. Additionally, the incumbent must hold a valid class DZ licence with a satisfactory driving record and be able to provide a Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening acceptable to the Township. The successful applicant must have experience working within a Volunteer Fire Department.  The successful candidate must hold and maintain a primary residence within thirty (30) kilometers of the Township of Oro-Medonte boundaries.
