Ottawa firefighters were called to a large fire at a home in Ottawa’s rural west end on Monday afternoon.
The Ottawa Fire Services say multiple 911 callers reported a fire inside the garage of a two-storey single-family home in the 1400 block of Diamondview Road near Carp at about 5:45 p.m.
Firefighters arriving on scene found the garage “fully engulfed” in flames that had spread to the home. Crews began quickly attacking the flames and brought a hose line through the home. A ladder was also set up to battle the flames from above.
“Firefighters were met outside by the residents, who confirmed everyone had safely evacuated and all pets were accounted for,” Ottawa Fire Services say.
The fire was in an area without fire hydrants, requiring firefighters to use a shuttle system with tanker trucks to bring water to the scene. Propane tanks on one side created an additional hazard.
Crews were able to have the fire under control shortly before 7 p.m.
Ottawa paramedics say they treated and assessed a 48-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man at the scene with symptoms of smoke inhalation. Both were released at the scene.
Ottawa Victim Services were dispatched to the scene to assist seven residents who will be displaced.
An investigation into the cause and origin of the fire is ongoing.
