Bake off challenge at the Picton Fair will honour a late firefighter

A late firefighter will be honored at the Picton Fair next week.

Ontario’s oldest agricultural fair will run from September 5-7th. The Bake Off Challenge this year will honor late Prince Edward County Deputy Fire Chief Jim Young. He was the first winner of the Bake Off in 2007 with an apple pie. Young died earlier this year. The Bake Off’s Apple Pie Category will be named in his honour this year.

The Bake Off has raised over $48,000 for the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation since it started.

The Bake Off will take place on Saturday, September 6th at the Prince Edward Curling Club. People have until event day at 8:30 a.m. to drop off their goodies. The judges will start at 8:45 a.m. and the live auction will take place at 10:30 a.m.

The categories will be apple pie, cake, pie and cheesecake.
