Greater Napanee firefighter Mackenzie Grosvenor's heroic actions back in 2023 were recognized at town council on Tuesday night as Fire Chief Shawn Armstrong presented him the King Charles III medal.

Grosvenor was nominated as a medal recipient by MPP Ric Bresee due to being a recipient of the 2023 Ontario Medal for Police and Firefighter Bravery after he saved an individual from a burning vehicle while off-duty in 2023.

Just after midnight on Oct. 28, 2023, a car crash occurred on a residential street in Amherstview, causing one vehicle to catch fire. By chance, the collision happened right in front of a house where firefighter Mackenzie Grosvenor was visiting while off-duty. Upon hearing the crash, he rushed outside and rescued the injured driver from the burning car. The driver had severe injuries but was still alive as they waited for medical assistance to arrive. Grosvenor's actions were credited with saving a life that night.

The Coronation Medal commemorates the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III as King of Canada. Eligible recipients must have made a significant contribution to Canada or to a particular province, territory, region or community of Canada, or have made an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada.

Last June Grosvenor was presented with the Ontario Medal for Firefighter Bravery in recognition of his efforts back in 2023.
