Salary Range:                    $122,700 - $129,393 (2024 rates)

Hours of Work:                  8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday

Starting Date:                    TBD, 2024

Responsibilities:

  • Safely supervises high-risk emergency training evolutions.
  • Evaluates emergency operations and critiques to determine department training requirements.                     
  • Approves, develops, conducts, and evaluates training plans and curriculums for the Department.
  • Maintains accurate and reliable training records documenting mandated training according to departmental and legal standards ensuring all training is conducted in a uniform manner to all members.
  • Administrates and monitors Secondary and College level cooperative education programs and conducts performances and evaluations of Coop Students.
  • Participates in the development and administration of departmental testing procedures.   
  • Ensures compliance with departmental policies, provincial, and national standards, and best practices.
  • Counsel employees on available training and educational opportunities.                                  
  • Prepares training budget and controls and monitors expenditures.                                                                                                     
  • May be assigned to assist at an emergency scene as sector or safety officer.
  • Attends additional training as directed by the Fire Chief.        
  • Under the direction of the Chief, attend Emergency Management Ontario Training sessions and deliver appropriate training to Emergency Management Personnel.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent secondary education as established by the Ontario Ministry of Education.
  • NFPA 1001 – Fire Fighter I & II Certified.
  • NFPA 1021 – Fire Officer Level II Certified.
  • NFPA 1041 – Fire Instructor Level II Certified.
  • Ability to instruct, develop, and deliver training in all areas of Fire & Emergency Services operations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel.
  • Ability to prepare and administer training budget.
  • Experience in classroom instruction and in the usage of audio-visual aids.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Instructional experience in emergency medical response.
  • Instructional and practical experience in incident command.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 1500, NFPA 1403, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Section 21 committee guidelines.
  • Experience in incident safety officer roles.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, Class “D” Ontario Driver’s License with “Z” endorsement.

The following qualities, attributes, and qualifications would be considered an asset:

  • Blue Card Command Certified Instructor
  • NFPA 1521 – Incident Safety Officer Certified
  • Instructional experience in advanced extrication is preferred.
  • Instructional experience in hazardous materials response is preferred
  • Instructional experience in various technical rescue disciplines, including ice/water rescue, rope rescue, trench rescue, confined space rescue and structural collapse is preferred.
  • Experience and proficiency in e-learning, virtual reality simulation and other multi-media training platforms.
  • Administrative and computer skills.
