Perry Fire Department upgrades fleet with new pumper tanker

The Perry Fire Department has boosted its operational capacity with the acquisition of a new 2,000-gallon pumper tanker to replace a vehicle nearly a quarter-century old.

Fire Chief Doug Holland, who had been tasked with the replacement shortly after his hiring in July, confirmed the new vehicle offers dual functionality — critical for emergency response.

“This now gives us the capability of pumping water and transporting water,” Holland said in an interview.

The new vehicle, a single-axle pumper tanker, replaces a 23-year-old traditional tanker that could only shuttle water.

Holland said the new apparatus is classified as a pumper tanker. The only difference from a true pumper tanker is the current lack of ladders, adding the department could still add them.

“We are more than excited to have this new vehicle here for us,” Holland added.
