Welland Fire officials say a fire at Humberston Landfill has been contained as fire crews prepare to clear the scene as a shelter in place order has been lifted.
The City of Port Colborne issued a statement earlier today warning residents to keep windows and doors closed and the Ministry of the Environment was on scene to monitor air quality.
Acting Fire Chief Matt Richardson says there is no further concern and no hazardous material was affected.
Fire crews were called Monday to a report of skids on fire at the Welland Humberston Landfill site at 700 Humberstone Rd in Welland just after 6 p.m.
Crews arrived to find a massive pile of engulfed skids and requested additional manpower to the scene.
Water supply was not available at the rural site of the fire and tankers were needed to shuttle water to the scene.
