Someone who became stranded along a remote part of the Saugeen River after their inflatable raft was punctured was rescued after an hour-long search Sunday.
South Bruce OPP said in a news release that it received a report of someone stranded along the river about 8:42 p.m. after their inflatable raft punctured.
Police located the person and called on the Hanover Fire Department, which has a low-draft water-rescue boat, Hanover Fire Chief Jeff Dentiger said by phone Tuesday.
He said firefighters helped get him across the river to where police who found him were waiting. “From what I understand, it was way back in the river and it was a swampy area as well and it was say back in basically . . . surrounded by farms,” said Dentiger, who didn’t attend the call.
The police release said “While inflatable watercrafts are a fun activity for the swimming pool, you put yourself at risk when attempting to take them down the Saugeen River or out on Lake Huron.”
