London Fire Department issues alert about phone donation scam

The London Free Press

The London Fire Department is warning residents about phone scammers posing as firefighters and requesting monetary donations.

In a statement Tuesday, officials said callers have been impersonating the department and asking for money – something the fire service would never do.

“If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately. Never share personal information or send any money,” the department said.

Anyone targeted is urged to report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.

Residents who have already sent money believing it was for the fire department should contact London police at 519-661-5670
