New Tecumseth Fire Rescue submits annual report

The New Tecumseth Fire Department has issued its annual report to Town Council regarding its activities for 2024.

The report provides information on Fire Department responses, training, fire prevention, public education and emergency management activity.

In 2024, New Tecumseth Fire Rescue emergency responses increased by 8.36 per cent over 2023.

Public education and support of community events increased significantly during 2024, with personnel attending and participating in 95 events.

Over the year, 188 routine, request, and complaint fire inspections were conducted, and 14 fire origin, cause, and circumstance investigations were completed.

In 2024, there was a total of 1245 responses to emergencies. This includes 35 MTO vehicle accidents, 162 municipal roadway vehicle accidents, 39 structure fires, ten vehicle fires 54 CO alarms,  and 433 medical calls.

The NTFR has enhanced training programs for volunteer firefighters, ensuring exacting standards of readiness and response. NTFR has developed and conducted comprehensive training sessions, managing mandatory NFPA training certified to IFSAC/Pro Board accreditation requirements.

The NTFR is staffed by 100 paid on-call firefighters and a team of full-time fire administration officers, including a Fire Chief, a Deputy Fire Chief of Operations and Training, a Deputy Fire Chief of Prevention and Education, a Division Chief of Operations and Training, and a Fire Prevention Officer.

Fire department equipment includes pumpers, tankers, pumper tankers, rescue units, and aerials.

In 2024, the two new fire apparatus were acquired to enhance emergency response capabilities. This includes a Pierce 100’ Ascent Aerial – this state-of-the-art aerial apparatus will significantly improve the ability to tackle high-rise fires and perform rescues at elevated heights.

Acquisitions also include a Saber Heavy Rescue – Equipped with advanced rescue tools and equipment, this vehicle will bolster the capacity to manage complex extrications and technical rescue operations.

The Fire Department currently has three fire stations – Station 1, Allison, Station 2, Beeton, and Station 3, Tottenham.

There is a request for the new construction of Fire Hall #4 in the Treetops area of Alliston.
