Division Chief - Fire Prevention
Job Description
Clearview Township is looking to fill the position of Division Chief-Fire Prevention that is an integral part of the Clearview Fire and Emergency Services Department.
Qualifications:
- Community college diploma in Fire Protection Technology or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years’ experience in the fire and life safety field is preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of legislation, standards and regulations related to all aspects of fire protection, fire prevention and fire safety education.
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter II
- NFPA 1072 Hazardous Materials Operations
- NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector Level I (ability to obtain level II within 1 year)
- NFPA 1021 Fire Officer I
- NFPA 1033 Fire Investigator
- NFPA 1035 Fire and Life Safety Educator I (ability to obtain level II within 1 year)
- NFPA 1035 Public Information Officer
- Track record as an organized professional with excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, research and report-writing skills.
- A valid Ontario Class DZ driver’s licence.
Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Division Chief-Fire Prevention is responsible for managing Clearview Fire and Emergency Services Fire Prevention Division and the first two lines of defence including Public Education/Prevention and Fire Safety standards/Enforcement.
This includes but not limited to:
- Conduct comprehensive inspections of new and existing buildings for compliance with the Ontario Fire Code, the Ontario Building Code and applicable municipal by-laws, review plans, research and compile written reports, and maintain a permanent record of each inspection.
- Prepare and deliver public education and public relations programs, promoting fire safety and fire prevention via lectures, events and demonstrations.
- Prepare documents relative to the enforcement of The Fire Protection and Prevention Act, 1997 (FPPA) and municipal by-laws, give testimony and present evidence in court to substantiate infractions or violations.
- Act as an Assistant to the Fire Marshal, under the provisions of the Fire Protection and Prevention Act (FPPA).
- Perform origin and cause fire investigations.
- Evaluate, approve and ensure implementation of fire safety plans.
- Provide technical support and training for fire service personnel.
- Perform administrative duties as required.
- Maintain professional certifications and competencies.
- Develop and prioritize community risk reduction programs related to fire prevention, education, origin and cause.
- Perform Fire and Rescue duties as required.
- Supervise Paid On Call firefighters assisting with Fire Prevention Duties.
Based out of the Township of Clearview Fire Station 1 (Stayner) This position will require Flexible working hours to accommodate evening and weekend Fire Prevention initiatives. This Position requires extensive interaction with community members while delivering fire and life safety education at public events, educational facilities and vulnerable occupancies.
This position also requires superior computer skills to utilize records management and reporting systems.
This is not a remote position and requires 100% attendance in the office/field.
Educational Requirements:
Based on the education level of the successful applicant, extensive training and education may be required through online study and travel to Regional Fire Training Centers.
Salary:
Salary range offered for this position is $64,182 to $78,816 per year (2024)
