Retirement Announcement – Deputy Chief Samantha Hoffmann

After more than 30 years in the fire service, Deputy Chief Samantha Hoffmann is retiring on May 28, 2026.

Deputy Hoffmann didn’t just work in fire prevention, she lived it, believing deeply that the best emergencies are the ones that never happen. Through creative, engaging education and strong community connections, she helped make safety something people understood, remembered, and embraced.

Samantha began her career at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto as a Fire Marshal and Emergency Planning Coordinator. In 1996, she joined the North York Fire Department as a Firefighter, later advancing to roles including Fire Prevention Officer and Public Educator. Following amalgamation, she continued her service with Toronto Fire Services as an Acting Captain. In 2011, Samantha joined Barrie Fire & Emergency Services as a Public Fire and Life Safety Officer and subsequently served as Acting Chief Fire Prevention Officer. In 2022, she joined Caledon Fire and Emergency Services as Deputy Chief of Community Safety and Administration.

She is also a proud and active member of the Fire Service Women of Ontario (FSWO), serving on its Board of Directors and contributing to the advancement, mentorship, and support of women across the fire service.
Retirement will provide Samantha with more time to enjoy the outdoors whether on a quiet trail hike, playing soccer, reading a book, enjoying a glass of red wine or most importantly spending time with her husband Chris, four children Reid, Macey, Taryne, Mason and her granddaughter Stella.

Samantha, we thank you for your remarkable service and wish you nothing but happiness and new adventures in this next chapter.
