CTV News

As Windsor firefighters worked to put out a fire the WFCU Centre, voters for the federal election were being relocated to a different polling station.

Crews responded to the upgraded working structure fire at the recreation facility at 8787 McHugh St. just after 10 a.m. on Monday.

The fire was reported on the roof.

Police have closed McHugh Street from Darfield to Florence. The public is asked to avoid the area.

Fire officials say everyone has been evacuated.

Many residents were at the WFCU Centre Monday morning since it was a voting location for the federal election. A voter tells CTV News they have been relocated to St. Joseph’s Catholic High School at 2425 Clover Ave.

Police also posted about the fire on social media, directing voters to St. Joseph’s high school.

A fire investigator is attending the WFCU Centre to investigate origin and cause of the fire.

There is no power at the facility for a time to be determined, according to a social media post from Windsor fire officials.
