Significant damage following Guelph apartment fire

Firefighters quickly put out flames at a Guelph apartment building on Wednesday.

Crews with the Guelph Fire Department were called to 265 Westwood Road just before 4 p.m.

They said the fire started in a unit on the top floor of the six-storey building.

No one was home at the time.

Officials said firefighters extinguished the flames within 30 minutes of arriving on Westwood Road.

There were no injuries reported.

Fire and water damage to the unit was described as extensive.

Officials said surrounding units also had damage and residents were displaced for the night.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

Guelph Fire did not share a damage estimate.
