The Niagara Falls fire department will hold a ‘Line of Duty Death Ceremony’ this Sunday to commemorate a retired firefighter.
Ronald Jamieson will be added to the Line of Duty Death Memorial at Fire Station 1 at 5815 Morrison St. The event will take place at 10 a.m.
Jamieson — who was with the department for over 25 years — passed away at his home in November of last year at the age of 78.
Family members, local fire department personnel, retirees, members of Niagara Falls City Council, senior staff and dignitaries are expected to attend.
“The memorial was built to provide a permanent place to honour and remember firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty or from a work-related illness,” a statement from the department reads.
The first dedication was held on Dec. 15, 2004, and on Sept. 11, 2018 a new memorial was unveiled.
Sixteen Niagara Falls firefighters have been honoured since the first ceremony.
