Investigators are combing through the remains of a newly built home in LaSalle that burned to the ground over the weekend.
Crews were called to the two-storey home in the 4800 block of Terra Bella Drive in Laurier Heights near Laurier Parkway just after midnight Sunday.
They arrived to find a fully engulfed structure, with visible flames and heavy smoke pouring out of the building.
It took hours for firefighters to put out the fire. They were unable to save the structure.
The massive blaze destroyed the home and damaged two nearby homes, in a neighbourhood where houses sell for more than $1.5 million.
Crews remained on the scene until late Sunday morning to ensure the fire was extinguished.
There was significant damage to an adjacent home and lesser damage to another nearby house under construction. Charred wood, broken windows and melted metal hung from the structure Monday.
Fallen building debris remained scattered at the scene.
Monday morning, investigators were searching through the debris to determine a cause for the blaze.
Social media reports suggest the house was unoccupied and for sale. The home next door was occupied.
There were no reports of injuries.
LaSalle police were installing yellow caution tape at the scene Monday morning as an investigator from the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office sifted through the debris.
Investigators are asking residents in the area to check video surveillance or dashcam footage for possible evidence, including any suspicious activity.
