Fire crews quickly contained a structure fire at a large, vacant commercial building and warehouse at 501 Dundas Street in Deseronto on Wednesday morning.
The Deseronto Fire Department was dispatched around 6:55 a.m. and arrived on scene at 7:02 a.m. Firefighters began an offensive attack, and due to the size of the building, mutual aid was immediately requested from the Mohawk Fire Department.
The fire started on the second floor but was quickly contained, preventing further damage. By 8:07 a.m., the blaze was declared under control. Fire crews remained on site for several hours to extinguish hot spots and ensure the fire was fully out.
The Ontario Provincial Police have taken over the scene to investigate the cause. The Deseronto Fire Department thanked Mohawk Fire and the community for their support, noting that collaboration between departments and local residents was vital to controlling the fire safely.
