Fallen Niagara Falls firefighters to be honoured

NiagaraFallsReview

Niagara Falls’ fallen firefighters will be honoured during a special Sunday ceremony.

Niagara Falls Fire Department will pay tribute at 10 a.m. to their peers who died in the line of duty.

Retired firefighter Ronald Jamieson will be added to the memorial during the ceremony at Fire Station 1 at 5815 Morrison St.

The memorial was built to provide a permanent place to honour and remember firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty or from a work-related illness.

The family members of Jamieson will be in attendance Sunday and will lay a rose at the memorial.

Family members of other firefighters listed on the memorial have also been invited to attend, as well as fire department personnel, retirees, members of city council, senior staff and dignitaries. The public is also invited to attend.

The first line of duty death dedication ceremony was held Dec. 15, 2004. The unveiling of the Station 1 memorial took place Sept. 11, 2018. Since the first ceremony, 16 Niagara Falls firefighters have been memorialized.
