The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department is asking residents to stay away from the Duncan and West street area for some time as crews battle a two-house fire.
Fire Chief Gary Monahan said the blaze, which was called in at 10 a.m. today, started on the porch of one house. The fire engulfed the one building and carried over to a neighbouring house.
“Both buildings are uninhabitable. There’s no chance of living in either one of those homes for a long time,” the chief said.
Crews were still battling the fires as of 2:30 p.m.
“We have to bring in an excavator now to assist because it’s becoming unsafe for our members up on the second floor because there’s so much damage ,” Monahan said.
The chief said officials won’t have any determination as to the cause of the blaze “for a long time.”
