A home in Elmvale was significantly damaged after a fire broke out late Tuesday morning.

Heavy smoke could be seen coming from the roof of the home when crews arrived at the scene.

Police closed Queen Street (County Road 92) in both directions between Usher Road and Yonge Street for emergency crews to work to extinguish the fire. Several other roads in the area were also closed as a result, including Stone, Peter and Amelia streets. All roads reopened around 7 p.m.

Officials say heavy equipment was brought in to assist with putting out the blaze.

“There were no injuries, and the occupants are safe,” stated police.

The cause of the fire has yet to be disclosed and the extent of damage is unclear at this time.
