The Burlington Fire Department responded to two separate house fires this past Thursday, May 15, that totalled around $55,000 in damage.
A fire in a multi-unit residential building Thursday afternoon caused around $30,000 in damage.
The Burlington Fire Department dispatched eight emergency vehicles and 22 crew members to Ontario Street at around 3:50 p.m.
Smoke was visible when firefighters arrived and they were on the scene for about an hour.
Four people live in the home, but no injuries were reported.
Burlington Fire says the blaze originated in the basement and ‘electrical failure’ is thought to be the cause.
Unattended cooking
Unattended cooking is the suspected cause of a second fire, believed to have originated in the kitchen, that caused about $25,000 in damage to a home on Greenwood Drive early Thursday evening.
The Burlington Fire Department sent five emergency vehicles and 13 crew members to the fire at 5:51 p.m.
Smoke was visible when they arrived. They were on the scene for about an hour.
Two people live in the home but no injuries were reported.
Burlington Fire says cooking is the top cause of residential fires in Ontario.
