An asphalt plant in Mono has temporarily closed following a fire at the facility Monday evening.
Fire crews were called to the GIP Orangeville Asphalt Plant, located off Highway 10, just before 5 p.m. for reports of a fire in one of the buildings.
According to officials, the blaze began in the heat shed—the area where tar is heated and liquified.
Officials with the Shelburne and District Fire Department say that flames quickly overtook the building, sending a thick dark smoke over the mixing plant.
Roughly 20 firefighters and four pumper trucks responded to the incident. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes of arrival, according to officials.
Orangeville Fire assisted with mutual aid and a water tanker. Hydro and Enbridge Gas were also called to the scene.
No injuries were reported in the midst of this incident. It is unclear how much monetary damage was caused to the plant.
