Wood stove chimney likely started house fire near Alvinston

Brooke Fire Service officials say a wood stove chimney was the likely cause of a fire near Alvinston.

Firefighters from Alvinston, Watford and Glencoe were called to a house fire in Southwest Middlesex on Old Airport Road Friday afternoon before 4 pm. A home, well off the road and surrounded by trees, was on fire.

No flames were visible however white smoke rose from behind the pine trees. Firefighters could be seen making a hole in the roof at the back of the home near a aluminum chimney.

Fire Chief Steve Knight says the people in the home had left the building by the time firefighters arrived and no one was injured.

The fire was contained to the attic, which Knight says was damaged extensively. The chief says the damage to the attic will have to be repaired before the owners can move back in.

Knight says the wood stove’s chimney was the likely cause of the fire.
