One person was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a kitchen fire on Albion Street over the weekend.
In a news release issued today, Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services say crews were called to the blaze in the 0-100 block on Sunday, Feb. 8, around 11:30 p.m.
Crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire.
Upon investigation, firefighters say the blaze was caused by unattended cooking.
There is significant smoke and fire damage to the dwelling.
Sault Fire Services reminded locals to never leave cooking unattended.
"Stay in the kitchen at all times while cooking and watch what you heat," a news release said.
If a stove-top fire occurs, the best method for extinguishing is to cover with a lid.
"Never use water on a fire that contains grease or oils. An appropriately rated class B or K fire extinguisher can also assist in extinguishing a cooking fire. If there are ever any doubts about extinguishing a fire, get out and call 911."
