Fire crews responded to two separate incidents at the same Bloor Street residence on Saturday, with the second blaze later deemed suspicious and turned over to police.
Fire officials said the first call came around the noon hour on April 11.
“An unattended cooking fire,” said Sudbury Fire Chief Robert Grimwood in a brief phone interview with CTV News.
The fire chief said crews quickly cleared the residence and returned the site to the care of the homeowner and their insurance to secure the structure and arrange security for the site.
Second call
Grimwood said that about nine to 10 hours later, at about 10 to 10:30 p.m. the same evening, firefighters were called back to the same address.
The chief told CTV News that the second incident is being treated as a suspicious fire and blaze remains under investigation.
Police investigation
Fire services have turned the scene over to the Greater Sudbury Police Service.
“I am unable to comment further,” said Grimwood, because the investigation and scene are now with police.
