Spot smoke near Midland’s former Villa Nursing Home? Here’s why

CTV News

Don’t be alarmed if you spot a plume smoke around Midland’s former Villa Nursing Home this summer.

The Midland Fire Department will be conducting training exercises at the former nursing home on 689 Yonge Street, every Wednesday evening.

Between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., residents may notice fire trucks, emergency vehicles and firefighters working inside and outside of the building.

The community might even see artificial smoke around the site.

The town says there will be no live fires during the exercises. A “training in progress” sign will be posted on Yonge Street, though the activity may still draw some wandering eyes.

The department says the training is an important part of ensuring firefighters are prepared to respond to emergencies.

The training starts this Wednesday and runs weekly until July 29.
