A Bell Street home garage fire last night left two people with serious injuries.

Milton Fire and Rescue Services were called to the residence – in the west end of the downtown core – at about 5 p.m., arriving to a detached garage that was engulfed in flames.

Fire Chief Peter Gatto confirmed that the blaze was quickly extinguished and didn't spread to the home, but that a woman reportedly suffered severe burns – believed to be to her face, arms and torso – while a man also suffered serious burns.

Six trucks were called to the scene.

The damage is initially estimated at $150,000.

A fire investigator was on scene trying to determine the cause of the fire and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal was notified due to the serious injuries.

Halton police blocked off a section of Bell Street, south of Elmwood Crescent, as firefighters battled the fire.
