Second blaze in weeks at Hamilton and Rectory property deemed suspicious

CTV News

A fire that broke out in east London Sunday evening is considered suspicious, according to London Fire Department.

Multiple units responded to a vacant building in the area of Hamilton Road and Rectory Street.

Crews had to use an aggressive offensive attack and an aerial truck was called in.

It took about three hours to get the blaze under control before firefighters could clear the scene.

This is the second time this year that fire has broken out at the same property.

In January, crews responded to the building where they were met with heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof.

At the time of that fire, business owners in the area told CTV News, “We don’t feel safe with the building being vacant because it affects our business — the smell, and the unsafe people coming in and out.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact London police.
