The aftermath of a fire in the city’s south side is under investigation as police say it appears “suspicious”.

A call about the fire came into police around 10:20 p.m. on Sunday night in the area of McLaren Avenue and McMillan Crescent.

Police say upon arrival, an abandoned house on Yonge Street was ablaze, with flames “fully engulfing” the structure.

Barrie Fire and Emergency Services tell CTV News four trucks and a total of 15 personnel were on scene.

The fire department says it took about 20 minutes to get the flame under control and a total of two and half hours to completely diminish it.

According to the fire departing, a neighbouring abandoned house was also partially damaged in the process.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is now under way.

No injures were reported as a result of the fire.
