OPP vehicles catch fire at police headquarters in Orillia

CTV News

Emergency crews responded to an early morning fire at the Ontario Provincial Police headquarters Tuesday after two police vehicles went up in flames inside a secured parking compound.

Fire officials tell CTV News the call came in around 5:30 a.m. at the Orillia general headquarters located at 777 Memorial Avenue.

When firefighters arrived, they discovered two police vehicles in flames in the rear-locked compound area of the property.

Crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control, preventing the blaze from spreading any further.

Officials say the fire is not considered suspicious.

Early indications suggest the blaze may have started in one vehicle and then spread to the second. Investigators say the cause could be electrical related.

It remains unclear how much damage was caused.
