One person has been taken to hospital following a fire Wednesday morning in Elliot Lake.
Fire crews were called to the home in the 100 block of Westhill Road just before 11 AM.
After arriving at the property, responding firefighters reported seeing visible smoke from the home. Fire Chief John Thomas says they were able to quickly put out the blaze, and the house has been left with extensive smoke damage.
Two family pets were lost, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Thomas says it’s a reminder that every home should have a working smoke detector and carbon monoxide alarm on every left of the property.
“Properly maintained alarms provide critical early warning and can save lives,” he said in a release.
