A person is in custody following a suspicious house fire that destroyed a home in Tiny Township on Sunday evening. The incident resulted in the death of a dog and left one person injured.
Emergency crews were called to a structure fire on Macedonia Circle just before 6 p.m.
Officials from Tiny Township Fire Services arrived and found the house and a separate garage fully engulfed in flames.
The fire was extinguished, but police said the home was heavily damaged.
One resident suffered minor injuries and smoke inhalation and was taken to the hospital by Simcoe County Paramedic Services for treatment. Police said a dog inside the home died in the fire, and a nearby house was also damaged.
A short time later, officers with the Southern Georgian Bay police detachment found and stopped a vehicle on Golf Link Road in Tiny Township.
One person was arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody. Police confirmed charges have not yet been announced.
The investigation is ongoing with assistance from the OPP Major Crime Unit and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal.
