Nurses evacuate area, extinguish fire at Sarnia's Bluewater Health, fire official says

CBC News

Nurses evacuated patients from a ward at Bluewater Health Wednesday night due to a fire in one of its rooms, according to Sarnia's chief fire prevention officer.

The nurses had extinguished the fire by the time fire crews arrived, Pete Aalbers said in a news release.

Three nurses and a patient were treated for smoke exposure and released.

Fire crews were called to the scene at around 7 p.m., Aalbers said.

Four stations responded.

"The quick, selfless actions of staff at Bluewater Health minimized injury and confined fire damage to a single room," he said.

A dollar value has not been assigned to the damage to the hospital.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, and the Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified, Aalbers said.
