Emergency services responded to Gourley Farm Lane around 2:40 p.m.
Several firetrucks were spotted on scene around 4:45 p.m. as smoke billowed from the roof of a home. Firefighters climbed on top of the house to try to douse the flames from above.
On Tuesday morning, fire officials confirmed one person sustained injuries and was transported to hospital.
“The fire is deemed suspicious,” said Deputy Chief, Eric Yates with the North Dumfries Fire Department, in an email to CTV News.
Waterloo Regional Police said the man who was arrested is being held for a bail hearing.
