House in west London damaged in late-night fire

Firefighters battled a blaze in the city’s west end on Monday night, London Fire Department officials say.

In a post to social media at about 11:45 p.m., officials said that they were at an active incident at the intersection of Commissioners Road and North Street in west-end Byron, where crews were dealing with a structure fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters faced heavy fire and smoke at the house at 1080 Commissioners Rd. W. – across the street from Springbank Park – and used hose lines for search, rescue and fire control, officials said.

In a later update, the London Fire Department said crews were actively fighting the fire with coordinated searches, noting an urgent message was requested due to “reported holes in the floor,” a protocol to protect firefighters from the dangers.

Photos posted by the London Fire Department show heavy smoke billowing from the house, with fire hoses strewn across the property and firefighters at the site of the blaze. The post didn’t indicate if any injuries were reported, or detail the cost estimate of the damage done to the house.
