Home under construction destroyed by suspicious fire in Markham, police investigating

ork police are investigating a fire at a home under construction in Markham as suspicious.

Emergency crews were dispatched to a residential fire in Markham on Monday afternoon.

Fire Services arrived at the scene at approximately 5:15 p.m. and extinguished the blaze. No injuries were reported.

According to York Regional Police (YRP), the blaze happened at the site of a new build on Hughson Drive that was under construction. The home was destroyed in the fire.

Police said it had been under construction for an extended period of time and was unoccupied. Some adjacent homes sustained minor damage.

YRP said the fire is being treated as suspicious and the Fire Marshall’s Office has been notified.
