A structure fire has destroyed a historic building at 240 Main Street in Deseronto. The blaze broke out in the early evening of September 8, 2025, with flames appearing to start on the western side of the property. The cause is still under investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office and the Ontario Provincial Police.
The Deseronto Fire Department, with support from the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte Fire Department, responded within minutes and worked through the night to contain the fire and manage hot spots. Their quick action prevented the flames from spreading to nearby properties.
The OPP secured the area and maintained safety while Public Works closed nearby roads for emergency access. Community members also supported firefighters by providing food and water.
Officials confirmed the building, most recently used as a storage facility, is a complete loss. Crews remain on site to clear debris and ensure public safety.
