The Grimsby Fire Department is purchasing more firefighter personal protective equipment (PPE) thanks to $36,223 from the province’s Fire Protection Grant program.
PPE gear includes footwear, protective balaclava hoods, helmets, gloves, jackets, pants, boots, flashlight, personal thermal imaging camera and self-contained breathing apparatus.
Each complete PPE set costs about $5,200 per firefighter and the grant allows the town to purchase several complete sets of gear that will be available to fire crews when needed.
