A garage workshop is a total loss and a firefighter suffered a minor injury in a blaze in Maitland.
The Augusta Fire Department says firefighters arrived at the scene just before 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon to find heavy smoke and visible flames coming from a detached garage workshop.
Manager of Protective Services for Augusta Township Robert Bowman tells Moose FM that heavy winds pushed sparks and smoke toward two nearby residences.
“The wind did not help us at all. It was very strong, upwards of sixty to sixty-five kilometres an hour, which really pushed our firefighters to their limits.”
Bowman adds that crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to the homes.
He says his firefighters received help from the Edwardsburgh Cardinal Fire Department and the Elizabethtown Kitley Fire Department as well as the Ontario Provincial Police with traffic control.
The injured firefighter was treated and released at the scene.
