CTV News

A firefighter in Blind River has been treated for minor injuries following a house fire in the community on Wednesday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to a home on the west-end of Youngfox Road at 4:48pm.

According to town officials, 16 firefighters and five apparatus were used to respond to the scene.

Fire Chief Ryan Belair says crews were able to quickly contain and extinguish the fire while ensuring the safety of neighbouring properties.

He adds there were no civilian injuries or fatalities as a result of the blaze.

It’s still unclear the level of damage to the home and there’s no word yet on a cause.

The firefighter who was injured was treated in hospital and released later that night.

“The Blind River Fire Department would like to remind residents that calling 911 immediately at the first sight of an emergency is critical. Early notification allows emergency services to respond quickly and can significantly reduce the impact of fires and other emergencies,” said Belair in a statement.
