Elliot Lake Fire Department is asking residents to remember their gas vents when clearing snow around their residences.
Enbridge offers tips on how to safely clear both vents for all appliances and meters, and it says customers should be sure to never use sharp things like shovels and snow blowers on or near vents and meters.
"During colder months, gently clear snow and ice from your natural gas meter, regulator and natural gas appliance vents to help avoid safety hazards, service interruptions and appliance malfunctions," says its website.
Additionally, the Elliot Lake Fire Department is encouraging citizens to check on their neighbours and assist in clearing their exits if they are able.
