Fort Frances Fire and Rescue Services is seeking community support to keep fire hydrants clear and neighbourhoods safe this winter.
For accessibility, residents are encouraged to remove any snow and ice to clear a perimeter, or a clear-away zone, of about three feet around hydrants near their homes so firefighters can work, according to a Facebook post by the fire department on Monday.
The fire department, in the post, said snowed-in hydrants can equal dangerous delays, noting that one hydrant took minutes to clear after the snowfall, which, in a fire, is time they don’t have.
Firefighters need clear access — immediately, it added.
