Firefighters from all over the region converged on the north side of Beiers Road in Gravenhurst Monday to attack a stubborn brush fire.

Crews from Ramara, Severn and Mukoka Lakes joined the Gravenhurst Fire Department to tackle the five-hectare blaze in what has been described as "very rough" terrain.

According to a social media post last night, crews have suppressed the fire to prevent further spread overnight.

Several water drops were completed by air resources from Ontario Forest Fires.

Despite those efforts, the fire remains "active," and crews will be returning this morning to "continue suppression."

Smoke will likely be prevalent in the area for the next couple of days, warn officials, who ask people to avoid the area.

Beiers Road will be closed to traffic today between Arthur Schulz Road and Southwood Road for tanker shuttle operations.
