The Township of Lake of Bays Fire Rescue invites residents and visitors to celebrate Canada Day — and its new independent identity — at Dwight Beach Fire Fest on Tuesday, July 1, at 3 p.m.
The festival at Dwight Beach (1153 Dwight Beach Rd.) coincides with the department officially becoming an independent service. Gary Monahan, Huntsville’s fire chief, announced during council’s June 22 meeting that Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire and Emergency Services are splitting into separate departments, each serving its respective town.
Lake of Bays Fire and Emergency Services officially goes independent on July 1, though it is committing to its contract to work with and support Huntsville’s firefighters until the end of 2026.
Event attendees will be among the first to see the unveiling of the fire department’s new logo, mission and brand identity.
Jeremy Alldred-Hughes, Lake of Bays’ fire chief and director of emergency services, said there’s been a lot of local excitement around the changes with the town’s fire service, making Fire Fest an important way to mark the milestone.
“Really, it’s just a good community day,” said Alldred-Hughes. “Come out meet the firefighters, see the trucks, grab some food and spend some time together as we reveal the new identity of your local fire service.”
Running from afternoon to dusk, the event is free for the public to attend, though donations are welcome. From live music and family-friendly entertainment to games, a community barbecue, food vendors, and a fireworks display, Fire Fest promises a full day of lakeside fun while bringing the community together in support of local firefighters.
Alldred-Hughes said staff has received an overwhelming amount of support from over 15 local businesses and sponsors who have partnered with Lake of Bays Fire Rescue ahead of the event.
The town advises that Dwight Beach Road will be closed from noon on July 1 until midnight on July 2 to ensure public safety. Residents and visitors are asked to plan ahead when travelling, and to follow posted signage and detours.
