CTV News

A fast-moving wildfire made its way through Muskoka on Monday evening.

Fire officials say just before 5 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to Bala Park Island.

Officials say high winds were pushing the flames from the rail tracks towards four structures nearby.

The team used specialized forestry tactics and gear to encircle the blaze.

Crews arrived on scene quickly and Muskoka Lakes Fire Department said it was thanks to an early warning and a group effort.

The fire was extinguished by 7 p.m.

Firefighters from Bala Torrence, Walkers Point and Milford Bay all contributed to help put out the fire.

Fire officials are calling on the public to help with early detection. They say if you see smoke or fire in the forest, call 911 or 310-FIRE immediately.
