Fire crews responded to a large fire in a rural area of Ramara Township Saturday night.
Photos sent to CTV News by a viewer show Ramara Township firefighters extinguishing flames and thick smoke at towering bundles of hay in the middle of a grass field.
According to the township’s deputy fire chief, the pile of straw bales were nearly 20 feet high, 16 feet deep and 100 feet long, and the fire spread from the hay to nearby grass.
No people or animals were injured in the incident.
Ramara Township’s deputy chief adds that the lengthy response lasted until 6 a.m. Sunday morning, involving three tankers and a fourth truck from Rama First Nation. They also reportedly encountered water supply issues and needed to shuttle water throughout the night.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
